NARRATIVE:
JOHNSTON CO., NC – One person died, and two people sustained injuries Wednesday in a three-vehicle crash in northwestern Johnston County.
The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-40, or the James E. Harrington Freeway, near mile marker 313, which is just north of Cornwallis Road.
Police say that two eastbound vehicles collided, before hitting an eastbound Cadillac. The latter vehicle then struck the median barrier.
The driver of the Cadillac succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Authorities identified her as Ashley McNair.
Medics transported the other two drivers to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
A full investigation is underway.
