NARRATIVE:
DURHAM CO., NC – Multiple people were hurt Wednesday in a five-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck in southeast Durham County.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on the southbound side of I-885 near mile marker 5. This is just north of the I-40 junction and south of East Cornwallis Road.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision, which they say involved an SUV, a pickup truck, an 18-wheeler, and two cars.
Medics transported four people to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
Motorists experienced significant delays along I-885 Monday morning, as officials closed the southbound lanes for over two hours to help the victims, gather evidence, and clear the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
